Students will sit for in-house assessment at the end of Grade Six. Throughout the grades, students will be assessed via combination of tests and performance tasks designed to best reflect understanding.
Social Studies Social Studies, which is the study of people in relation to their past, their environment and their society, is taught as an integrated area of inquiry at BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong. Social Studies helps students to develop their personal, family, ethnic and cultural identities; to make informed and reasoned decisions about their classroom, the school and the world; and to understand themselves in relation to the past, the environment and the society.
In Social Studies, the topics are arranged into three major strands:
Science and Technology The inclusion of Science and Technology within the BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong curriculum leads students to an appreciation and awareness of the world as it is seen through the eyes of the scientist. In Science and Technology, there are four main areas of exploration:
English Language Language is essential to a child`s development and is a vital element of all curriculum areas at BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong. Throughout the day and in all subject areas, language is viewed as a major tool for learning. Students at our school do more than master basic language skills. They learn language, learn through language and learn about language. Areas of focus include Literature, Writing, Listening and Speaking Skills, and Study Skills that incorporates the use of the library.
Strong emphasis will be given to using drama and language performances such as debates, story-telling and public speaking to promote optimal language learning and appreciation. Additional Languages English is the language of instruction at BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong. However, we also value the mother tongue of our students. We believe that mother tongue language development is fundamental for maintaining cultural identity and emotional stability and that the acquisition of more than one language enriches personal growth and helps facilitate international understanding. Starting from the age of three, Bahasa Indonesia and Mandarin are taught to students of BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong.
Mathematics Mathematics is a major element in our curriculum. At BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong, students gain knowledge of mathematical language, and learn to express their ideas clearly in these mathematical strands:
Music All students at BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong receive music instruction from highly-qualified teachers. Students are exposed to a wide and varied repertoire of musical styles and learn the basic elements of music through singing, playing instruments, creating and composing, notation, and listening and appreciation.
Information & Communications Technology At BINUS INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL Serpong, students go to our technologically-advanced computer laboratory. In addition, each classroom is equipped with internet access. Our in-depth computer curriculum focuses on teaching skills that are meaningful for students, and that can be applied to the other subjects they are studying.
Visual Arts As a discipline, Visual Arts includes the development of creative skills, verbal and non-verbal expression, an awareness of the perspectives of others and aesthetic appreciation. Visual Arts enables our students to communicate in powerful ways that go beyond their spoken language ability. Through Visual Arts, students learn artistic skills, including the elements of design, art interpretation and the creation of artwork that expresses a range of ideas and feelings.
Physical Education Through PE, students learn the "language" of physical movement. They learn to understand what they can and cannot do physically and become aware of their own strengths and weaknesses. Physical activity is an essential aspect of a well-balanced, healthy lifestyle and learning through PE helps to build self-esteem, confidence, cooperation and fitness.
Character Building and Religion Character Education continues with the teaching and practicing of the Six Pillars: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship. This is enabled by teachers who are trained in counseling and mentoring skills. Various activities are incorporated to respect the different religions of students.
