A Duet for Home by Karina Yan Glaser tells the heartfelt story of June Yang, a young violinist whose family has fallen on hard times and must move into a homeless shelter in New York City. Struggling with embarrassment and uncertainty, June tries to adjust to her new reality while holding on to her love of music. At the shelter, she meets Tyrell, a quiet and talented cellist who is also facing his own challenges.

As the two form an unexpected friendship, they begin practicing music together, finding comfort and hope in their shared passion. When the shelter faces the threat of closure, June and Tyrell must decide whether they are brave enough to use their voices—and their music—to stand up for their community. The novel beautifully explores themes of resilience, friendship, dignity, and the power of art to create belonging even in the most difficult circumstances.

The Fourteenth Goldfish karya Jennifer L. Holm follows eleven-year-old Ellie, whose life takes a surprising turn when her eccentric grandfather suddenly appears looking—and acting—like a teenage boy. He claims to have discovered a scientific breakthrough that can reverse aging, and now he must enroll in middle school under a new identity. Ellie is skeptical at first, but she soon realizes that her grandfather’s experiment may be real.
As Ellie navigates the challenges of school, friendship, and family, she also learns important lessons about curiosity, failure, and the nature of scientific discovery. Through humor and heartfelt moments, the story explores the excitement of experimentation and the understanding that mistakes are an essential part of learning and growth.

The Seventh Most Important Thing by Shelley Pearsall tells the story of Arthur Owens, a boy who gets into serious trouble when he throws a brick at an old man known as “the Junkman.” As punishment, Arthur must spend his Saturdays collecting trash for the junkman to make things for his unique art. At first, Arthur doesn’t understand why he has to do this work—or what purpose it serves.
As the weeks go by, Arthur learns more about the Junkman’s life and the meaning behind his creations made from discarded objects. Through their unexpected connection, Arthur discovers lessons about forgiveness, worth, and finding beauty in unexpected places. This heartfelt tale shows how one person’s trash can become another’s treasure and how understanding and compassion can grow from even difficult beginnings.
